Lauren Adams — Architect

“Beauty emerges from the care we put into every joint, every material choice, every proportion.” — Lauren Adams, LETTER FOUR

Architecture was less a choice for Lauren Adams than an inheritance. The daughter of a fine artist and a carpenter, she grew up in Vermont with blueprints and paintbrushes in her periphery, watching her parents renovate homes with an attention to detail that was both tactile and creative. She installed windows alongside her father, helped her mother choose tiles for their kitchen floor, and listened closely to conversations about why some designs failed. Those early lessons planted the conviction that good architecture must be both imaginative and buildable, a philosophy she has carried through every phase of her career.

By the age of twelve, Adams had already declared her ambition to become an architect, a goal she pursued with unwavering determination. She earned her Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell University in 2001, working her way through school and learning the importance of balance and resilience along the way. Cornell honed her design sensibilities, while her own initiative drove her to master the business side rarely taught in architecture school. This combination of formal training and self-directed business education would later shape her approach to leading a firm of her own.
