Philip Liang — Architect

“As our climate keeps changing, we must do our part to inform homeowners and create houses that can sustain the future.”

Philip Liang, architect

A see-through fireplace with wrap-around wood paneling was a clever way to create connection while separating the two ends of the long great room space. The clients actually picked out the logs for the panels themselves, and reveals between the panels are beautifully and strategically placed. The gap from the ceiling that allows airflow also creates a floating look to the monolithic wall. The existing house had a slab on grade foundation, which means all the HVAC ducts had to be relegated to the roof — without it being visible from below. The Z-shaped roof beautifully ties the two wings of the house together while adding height and light to the central living area. Trusting all his senses and fostering a collaborative relationship with his client allowed Liang to create a dynamic relationship between the site and the home, gifting the homeowners an ideal environment in which to enjoy their lives.
