Growing up, Mindy Porter had no inkling that the skills her mother and grandmother were teaching her weren’t typical. Didn’t every child know the difference between Queen Anne and Chippendale, or read House Beautiful instead of Cosmopolitan? Even with this informal training in furniture placement and how to identify the best antiques and vintage pieces, Mindy didn’t initially pursue interior design as her career.
The first 13 years of her working life were spent in marketing for a Fortune 50 company, but at the urging of several friends and colleagues Mindy began designing homes and businesses — even a brewery! — and formally founded Spruce + Sparrow Design in 2019.
