Women of Architecture — A New View, Brought Forward

March is a moment of recognition. As we mark Women's History Month, we are reminded not only of what has been accomplished, but of what still demands visibility.

Architecture is one of the most visible expressions of culture. It defines the spaces where life unfolds: the homes that shelter us, the civic buildings that gather us, the landscapes that frame our cities. Yet the women who have shaped this discipline have too often remained in the background of architectural history.

For some time, we imagined Women of Architecture: a collective of unique voices as part of our New View collection — a natural extension of the regional volumes that celebrate design across place. But the more we listened, researched, and engaged with the work, the clearer it became: this book needed to stand on its own.

So we moved it forward.

There is a particular urgency to this moment — a recognition that there are still not enough platforms, not enough pages, not enough permanence given to the voices shaping architecture today. Women of Architecture is our response. A book that gathers both established and emerging practitioners — women whose work is rigorous, expansive, and, simply put, formidable.

At benton buckley books, a women-led company, this project is deeply personal. It is not a “best of,” nor a fixed list destined to be outdated. Our process has always resisted that impulse. We curate with a long view — building a body of work that reflects influence, not hierarchy. Women of Architecture is designed to endure, offering a perspective that extends beyond a moment or a trend.

This philosophy continues across the New View series. With New View Midwest released last year, we now look ahead to New View Mountain West, arriving alongside Women of Architecture in Summer 2026. New View Southeast and New View Pacific Northwest are already in progress — each region defined by its own material language, palette, and point of view.

And then there is Women of Architecture — distinct, deliberate. Where the New View books are rooted in geography, this volume is anchored in perspective. Its presence is intentional: a black cover, held in contrast with the silver foil that threads through the series. Strength, clarity, permanence. Even its title stands apart.

This is not an addition to the collection. It is a statement within it.

As we move through Women’s History Month, Women of Architecture feels less like a future release and more like a necessary arrival — one that reflects where we are, and where we are going.
