Marie-Louise Sjögren— Interior Designer

“The layout and floorplan should be figured out by the mind. The vibe and ambience by the heart.”

Marie-Louise Sjögren, interior designer

An Excerpt from “/be-spok/[bespoke]: a philosophy of beauty” by Beth Benton Buckley:

The eye of a designer and the lens of a camera are not so different, Marie-Louise Sjögren has discovered. The Stockholm-based interior designer, who works internationally as well as in her native Sweden, approaches each project like a film director, curating mood as much as function and elevating the drama with art, texture, and color. But, unlike a movie, an interior must allow people to live in it, rather than simply observe it.

Marie-Louise believes that every space has a story to tell, and it’s her duty to find the essence of that story and bring it to vivid life. She likes to begin with the space’s architecture, respecting its bones and working with, rather than against, the original style. Practical needs come first — after all, what good is a space that is frustrating or unpleasant during everyday tasks? Therefore, Marie-Louise doesn’t even begin the creative process until the home has a seamless flow.
