Harris Briggs — Architect
“Each project should feel cohesive and integrated. Rooms express themselves architecturally and formally.”
For those seeking relaxation at the end of a long day or a stolen moment during a party, the inglenook in the lounge is a favorite cozy spot to sit by the fire and enjoy a cocktail and conversation. A must on the clients’ wish list was an arched window located somewhere in the home — that became the featured moment in the family room, framing the watercolor sunsets that dazzle the sky each evening.
Another clever touch can be found in the playroom upstairs, where a hidden staircase is disguised behind a bookcase. The railing on top of the bookcase is an abstracted musical staff, with the rhythm of the bookcase dividing it into measures. Cut into the railing are little squares that notate the melody from a Mozart sonata. The playfulness of the melody itself adds to the personality of the room, while also demonstrating how trust from the homeowner can result in unique architectural details that ultimately give a home its character.
