The architects embarked on an immersive journey, delving into Hill Country vernacular alongside extensive consultations with the clients. It was not initially predetermined that the existing structures would be retained, but upon meticulous evaluation of budget, breezes, and logistics, it became apparent that this was the perfect canvas upon which their vision would be materialized. The outcome was a marriage of the old and new, a fully resolved compound where it is challenging to discern the historic from the contemporary. Within this architectural tapestry, volumes were organized to provide discrete views, catering to varying desires for privacy or publicity
.In a testament to both the architects’ acumen and the clients’ resolve, life amidst the chaos of construction —even with a newborn — was a required reality, further shaping the flow of the work. Moments of joy were found in the pursuit of authenticity in materials. For example, the team sought and discovered the perfect stone on property, which was chosen to serve as a raw-cut hearth for the fireplace, capturing the essence of the journey.
The residence, comprising bedrooms, a carport, kitchen, offices, a great room, and a gym, rests beneath a single roof gesture. Polycarbonate, with a corrugation profile mirroring the pre-existing roof, not only crafts a striking entry and carport but also admits light to the pre-existing rooms. Roam Ranch emerges as a divergence from the familiar in the Baldridge Architects portfolio, yet it bears witness to an inherentBaldridge essence — an embodiment of rugged beauty.
