Brian Mac — Architect

“Each home reflects the true nature of place. Finding authenticity in each project is the net result of understanding the client, the site and the program.”

Brian Mac, Architect

Having celebrated his 30th year as a licensed architect in 2022, Mac has also long been inspired by the buildings of historically world-renowned architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier, and Eero Saarinen.

But Mac also cites the work of British-Iraqi architect Dame Zaha Hadid (London Aquatics Centre, Guangzhou Opera House), Ghanian-British architect Sir David Adjaye (Washington, D.C.’s National Museum of African American History and Culture), and Japanese architect Kengo Kuma (Tokyo’s Japan National Stadium) as more contemporary motivation.

Additionally, Mac says minimalist American artist Donald Judd, Danish architect and furniture designer Hans Wegner, and Tyler Hays (founder of designer BDDW) also inform Mac’s work.

Most importantly, though, Mac is spurred on by a combination of the ideas of his clients and the opportunities offered by a particular building site.

“The dream project is hinged to the dream client,” said Mac. “We work with brilliant people who are very successful. Listening to their input is vital to the success of the project. I learned a long time ago to be open to input about design. Ideas are fluid, and there is always opportunity to explore potential.””
