Women of Architecture: Off to the Printer

There are certain moments in publishing that feel less like milestones and more like ceremonies.

This month, Women of Architecture was sent to print.

After months of conversations, curation, writing, editing, design, and the careful orchestration of countless details, the book has left our hands and begun its transformation into something tangible — ink on paper, cloth and binding, weight and presence. A book becoming itself.

At benton buckley books, we often speak about the permanence of print. In a culture of fleeting images and passing attention, there is something profoundly moving about creating an object designed to endure. A book asks us to slow down. To look longer. To consider. To remember.

Women of Architecture is a celebration of visionaries who have shaped the built environment with intelligence, artistry, conviction, and imagination. It honors women whose work transcends structure and function, creating places that inspire connection, reflection, and possibility. Their projects tell stories not only about architecture, but about leadership, creativity, and the enduring power of perspective.

Within these pages, readers will encounter a remarkable collective of voices — Lauren Adams, Amy Alper, Julia Arria, Maura Fernández Abernethy, Laura Juarez Baggett, Kristen Becker, Katherine Chia, Lise de Vito, Bibiana Dykema, Gale Goff, Laura Huylebroeck, Sussan Lari, Rebecca Lazenby, Annie Lo, Antonina Markoff, Marica McKeel, Kelly Murdock Solon, Joyce Owens, Anik Pearson, Julia Sanford, Mary Ann Gabriele Schicketanz, Ashley Sullivan, Andrea Swan, Michele Thackrah, and Nancy S. Weinman. Together, they represent a rich and varied expression of contemporary architecture — one rooted in innovation, humanity, resilience, and thoughtful design.

As architect Sussan Lari reflects in her foreword, a home is far more than a building. It is where we gather, nurture, connect, and live our lives. The architects featured throughout this volume understand that architecture begins not with walls or roofs, but with people. Their work reminds us that the spaces we inhabit shape our experiences, our relationships, and our sense of belonging. When women shape our homes, they also help shape a future where architecture begins with humanity.

Across 376 pages, stunning photography and thoughtful editorial invite readers beyond the blueprints and into the philosophies that guide these extraordinary practitioners. Each project reveals a unique approach to beauty and function, yet collectively they tell a larger story — one of women redefining architecture through creativity, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to how people experience the world.

There is a particular anticipation that accompanies this stage of the process. The creative work is complete, yet the book has not quite arrived. It exists in that rare space between vision and reality, carrying with it the excitement of what is soon to come.

Soon, pallets of freshly printed volumes will begin arriving. Soon, contributors will turn pages that until now have existed only on screens and proofs. Soon, readers will discover the remarkable women whose work fills this collection.

The book is expected to be in stock during the first week of September, marking the beginning of a new chapter for this extraordinary collection. Before then, we look forward to gathering our community for a special public relations webinar in mid-August, where we will share launch details, media opportunities, and ideas for celebrating the book's debut.

For now, however, we pause at this singular moment.

The files have been delivered. The presses are preparing to turn. What began as an idea is becoming an artifact.

And somewhere between imagination and permanence, between vision and paper, beauty continues its journey.

We cannot wait to place Women of Architecture: a collective of unique voices into the hands of the world.
